2024 KDU Georgia Chapter: A Year of Impact and Support

As the President of the KDU Georgia Chapter, Dr. Dudley John wishes to extend gratitude to our patrons and donors whose unwavering support has enabled us to make significant contributions over the past year. Their generosity has fueled a series of impactful initiatives that have brought relief and hope to communities both locally and internationally.

Responding to Crisis: The Tanker Fire

This past year, a terrifying tanker fire swept through Wellington to the Kisii area, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Many lives were lost, personal properties were destroyed, and countless individuals found themselves homeless overnight. In response to this tragedy, KDU Georgia, in collaboration with the KDY Freetown group, presented a financial donation to Freetown's deputy mayor. This support was crucial in the recovery and rebuilding efforts for the affected communities.

Rebuilding St. Charles Church

In another significant initiative, we responded to the urgent needs of St. Charles Church regents. A severe storm had torn off their roof, resulting in water damage to classrooms and other parts of the church. With the help of our donors, we provided the necessary funds to aid in the rebuilding process, ensuring that the church could continue serving its community in a safe environment.

Modernizing Trinity Infants School

We also took steps to enhance the learning environment at Trinity Infants School by modernizing toilet facilities for both pupils and teachers. This essential upgrade aimed to provide a healthier and more comfortable space for education.

Supporting Seniors in the Decatur Area

Close to home, our chapter continues to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by organizing annual events to serve seniors in the Decatur area. Each year on this significant holiday, we provide breakfast and lunch, ensuring that our senior citizens feel supported and valued by their community.

Looking Forward: Scholarships for Medical Students

We are excited to announce the launch of a scholarship fund aimed at supporting two medical students in Freetown, Sierra Leone. This initiative seeks to empower aspiring doctors as they pursue their medical careers, contributing to the healthcare system in their home country.
